Goat Mountain
Time: 4-5 hours
Distance: 8 km
Difficulty: Moderate
Elevation Gain: 275 m
Location: Lynn Headwaters Regional Park

Grouse Mountain offers great views of the lower mainland and downtown; however, once you pass the tourist sites and hit the Goat Mountain trail, the views get 10 times better. Goat Mountain offers a fabulous view of several mountain ranges, the lower mainland, and more. The hike is well worth it.

Terrain: Rough terrain and some steep inclines and ridges. Proper hiking footwear is highly recommended.

Resting on Goat Mountain - Beyond the touristy Grouse

Crown Mountain
Time: 6-8 hours
Distance: 8 km
Difficulty: Extremely Difficult
Elevation Gain: 500 m
Location: Lynn Headwaters Regional Park

Climbing/hiking Crown Mountain will offer almost anyone a very challenging hike. The views from Crown are spectacular and the hike up is highly rewarding. This is a very technical climb with a mix of chain climbs, ridge traversing, and risky natural hazards.

Terrain: Rough terrain and many steep inclines and ridges. Proper hiking attire including hiking boots are required.

A difficult trek, but worth the challenge

Dam Mountain
Time: 2-3 hours
Distance: 3 km
Difficulty: Moderate
Elevation Gain: 215 m
Location: Lynn Headwaters Regional Park

Dam Mountain is a short hike from the Grouse Mountain Super Sky Ride. It quickly takes you through a beautiful forest setting. Once on the rocky summit, views of Downtown Vancouver and the Georgia Strait are exposed.

Terrain: Some steep sections and exposed rocks and roots. Proper hiking footwear is recommended.

So close, yet so far.

Dog Mountain
Time: 2-3 hours
Distance: 6 km
Difficulty: Easy-Moderate
Elevation Gain: Minimum
Location: Mount Seymour Provincial Park

Dog Mountain bluffs offer picturesque views of the greater Vancouver area, Downtown, San Juan Islands, and the northwest mountain range including Crown and Coliseum Mountain. The hike is quite easy and leads through pristine wilderness.

Terrain: Flat with some inclines. Exposed roots and rocks are minimal. Footwear with good traction is recommended.

The beauty of the rain forest steps away

Capilano Valley
Trails in Capilano Regional Park are easy and range in distances. Hiking trails offer a wonderful forest experience in Capilano’s lush valley. Highlights include stops at the Fish Hatchery and the Capilano Dam.

 

Capilano Valley Park

Mount Seymour (First Pump Peak)
Time: 2.5 -3.5 hours
Distance: 7 km
Difficulty: Moderate
Elevation Gain: 142 Meters
Location: Mount Seymour Provincial Park

Mount Seymour has the advantage of three possible summits in one hike. The First Pump is the easiest and does offer outstanding panoramic views of the lower mainland and surrounding mountain ranges. Early in the hike, you will experience beautiful wilderness with a mixture of ponds and flowers. The trail quickly ascends to the sub-alpine where the vegetation dramatically changes.

Terrain: Rocky with some lengthy inclines. Exposed roots and rocks make the route challenging in some areas. Footwear with good traction is recommended.

Away from the crowds

Mount Seymour (Second Pump Peak)
Time: 3-4 hours
Distance: 8 km
Difficulty: Moderate
Elevation Gain: 342 Meters
Location: Mount Seymour Provincial Park

The Second Pump of Mount Seymour is about a 15 – 30 minute hike from the First Pump. The only difficulty is making it up the steep terrain, but the views are worth while.

Terrain: Rocky with some lengthy inclines. Exposed roots and rocks make the route challenging in some areas. Footwear with good traction is recommended.

Mount Seymour
Time: 4-5 hours
Distance: 9 km
Difficulty: Moderate
Elevation Gain: 397 Meters
Location: Mount Seymour Provincial Park

It is worth going the extra 20 -30 minutes to hit the summit of Mount Seymour. On the top you will experience a 360 degree view. Landmarks include Downtown Vancouver, Grouse Mountain, the San Juan Islands, Indian Arm, and the Northwest Mountain Range.

Terrain: Steep smooth rocks up the summit make it somewhat difficult to climb and footwear with good traction is highly recommended. There are also some obstacles that will require thought when ascending/descending.
