TEAM, TEAM BUILDING, TEAMING - WHAT HAPPENED TO THE INDIVIDUAL?
Teaming is a buzz word that has long been overused and lost its effectiveness.  It is all really up to the individual.

Vancouver, British Columbia – Businesses are being stretched to the limits with issues like rising health care costs, improving employee moral, management challenges, leadership succession, hitting key performance indicators and maintaining work/life balance.  Productivity demands, organization changes, outsourcing, and meeting share holder expectations are negatively impacting employee retention and business leadership.  Companies are turning to motivational speakers, team building exercises, golf, dinners, and other ways of building stronger organizations.  These are costly, but necessary in competing in our Global economy.  Is all this creating the desired impact of higher moral, reduced stress, greater efficiency, reduced absenteeism and so on?

“I’ve worked in business for years and I know one thing for sure, I got really good at pointing fingers at others, letting my morale slide and blaming it all on business leadership.” says Glen Sollors, Founder and Chief Trail Blazer, Beyond the Tour.  He continues, “Getting out of the corporate world was the best thing that could have happened to me, but now I crave it more than ever.  I have come to realize who is responsible for my success, work/life balance, energy level, motivation and happiness; Me.”  Attitude, tactful and open communication, accountability, creativity, trust, integrity and success are ultimately things only we can control.  Individual power has long been forgotten and as such, employees have given up their power to the business.  Negative attitudes, absenteeism, stress leave, unhappiness and ultimately high employee turn over and escalating costs are the results.

The individual is an integral part of any team.  There is an ‘I’ in Team and too long have the needs of the individuals been in the shadow of team building initiatives.  An ideal place to understand the power an individual has is around the water cooler, washrooms and anywhere management cannot be seen.  Running away, fearing management, finger pointing and feeling like the victim is creating anti-corporate sentiment and rippling negative energy.  It is about time that we stop looking at others and start building programs that promote individual empowerment.  This will expose the values, confidence and positive energy each of us holds, resulting in removal of personal barriers and greater team and business success.  If the individual is heard, respected, valued, has a sense of belonging, and their agenda and goals align with the business, a team will start performing.  The secret is: empower the individual and success will abound.

Personal empowerment and putting the individual back on the front stage before the team, is what Glen Sollors is promoting in his business, Beyond the Tour.  “We open up the core of the individual to build teams that communicate openly, understand each of our unique values, and know what success feels like,” says Glen.  He uses his passion, the power of the natural environment and wilderness excursions to get teams away from work related distractions to a place where organizational ranks are removed, air is clean and mental and physical rejuvenation is guaranteed.  Beyond the Tour coaches businesses using our natural environment to empower individuals.  The untraditional and stress free meeting places provide an effective way to build communication, trust, respect, and integrity.  The settings are inspirational and lower barriers resulting in shared ideas, clarity and a new perspective that encourages mutually agreeable solutions and accountability.  Individuals feel a sense of belonging, personal clarity, renewed energy and ultimately, part of a winning team.  For more information on Beyond the Tour, visit www.beyondthetour.com.
